Black bear hunting at Blue Walleye Outpost at Lac Achepabanca Quebec is incredible! Our outpost is tucked away in the corner of the vast untamed Canadian wilderness. A network of hundreds of miles of old logging roads has been transformed into a unique, productive hunting territory.
We take great pride in our hunts at Blue Walleye Outpost.
To share the enjoyment with our clients and see their hunts success we offer a fully guided experience with pre many pre baited sites.
Our guides have many years of experience successfully hunting black bears and guiding successful hunters out of Blue Walleye Outpost. Our guides are very knowledgeable about black bears and their habits. They hunt many species throughout North America, but in May and June they focus on the black bears that roam the boreal forest of Abitibi-Temiscamingue.
Our guides pay special attention to the skills and needs of each hunter to adapt every bait site to the hunter's specific needs.
This spring our guides returned to Blue Walleye Outpost for the first time in two years.
Their goal was to gauge the bear population size and quality. To do so they baited five of our numerous bait sites.
On the first night four of the bait sites were "hit" by multiple bears at each site. Over the next five days every site was hit by multiple bears day and night. In addition, our guides reported that bull moose and lynx visited the bait sites.
In the guide's judgement there were more than usual above average size bears and several bears that were significantly above average size (250 to 350 lb range).
Our guides are enthusiastic about the 2023 spring season. In their words "We are infested with bears".
SPRING BEAR HUNTING
There are many hunting opportunities at our lodge, the heart of what we offer is world-class black bear hunting with minimal pressure,
We use tree stands and ground blinds; (We encourage you to bring your safety harness) but we do have a supply at camp. Our stands are meticulously maintained with fresh bait and lure. Our guides will place you on an active site to optimize your chances and success.
Being the only outfitter in the area, we have no competition from other bear hunters.
The region we hunt is in the heart of Zone 13 East, which continues to have the highest number of bears harvested in Quebec. The extremely high number of bears per square kilometer is a key factor in our hunter's success. Traditionally more than 90% of our hunters have an opportunity to harvest a bear.
The very high density of bears in our area, combined with maintaining fresh bait sites daily, presents hunters with multiple opportunities to view bears and to harvest the bear of their choice.
We start bailing in the middle of May and except hunters till the end of June.
Hunters may use rifle, muzzleloader, bow or crossbow. If you are an archery hunter, you will love our up close and personal bait locations!
We are a small family-run operation and thrive on personalized service. To ensure quality service, we average 4 to 6 hunters per week. Our number of openings is limited, so book your hunt soon for the outdoors experience of a lifetime.
We have big freezers to freeze your trophy and meat for the trip home.
The black bear is approximately 4 to 7 feet from nose to tail, and two to three feet high at the withers. It has small eyes, rounded ears, a long snout, a large body, a short tail, and shaggy hair. It differs from grizzly bears in being smaller with a smaller shoulder hump, a furred rear instep, a less concave facial profile, smaller claws that are more tightly curved, and longer, smoother, and more tapered ears.
If you really want to have some fun, come up for a late season fishing trip and bring your shotgun. We offer spruce grouse and ruffed grouse hunting from the middle of September until camp closes in mid-October.
It's also a great time to hook into some really big fish!
Our moose lodge is located in prime moose hunting territory although this area hasn’t been hunted in the past three seasons there are good traces of moose presence.
The owners of Blue Walleye Outpost, look forward to booking their first Moose hunt in the Fall of 2023!!
